Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV service

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV serviceI hope everyone in the United States is having a great Labor Day. I wanted to take a moment and give all the Cord Cutters News readers an update on the site and our plans to help you get the most from your cord cutting experience on this holiday weekend.

Before we get to that, I want to thank everyone who asked about how the Cord Cutters News team is during the recent hurricane Harvey that hit down here in Texas. Thankfully we missed the worst of it and just ended up getting some needed rain; however, about 30 minutes from my house is the start of the flooding that hit Texas. I am happy to report that my family and the office didn’t have any damage.

I do have family closer to Houston, and they saw a great amount of flooding but are thankfully all safe. Once again thank you to everyone who asked about how we are. It was great to see all the notes.

Now the update on Cord Cutters News.

So far in 2017 Cord Cutters News (CCN) has seen crazy growth and it’s just not slowing down. August 2017 was the best month ever on the site. According to Google, August had the most visitors to the site ever and blew by our previous best month of July by 19%.

How fast are we growing? Compared to 2016 in August 2017 we saw an over 65% increase in page views. Growth in comments, unique visitors, and more was all off the board.

Even our social media is exploding with more than 1,000 new followers every week to our Facebook Page, Facebook Group, YouTube, and Twitter accounts. Some weeks we saw 2,000 or more new followers. We now have over 90,000 followers on all of our social media platforms! We are so close to the goal of 100,000 we set at the start of 2017. (Why not invite a few of your friends to follow us? We only need 10,000 more!) My goal is to top 100,000 social media followers by the end of September 2017, and we are well on our way to hitting that goal.

To respond to this growth, we are making a few improvements. As always we want to give you the best cord cutting coverage possible—from how-to guides and reviews to the latest cord cutting news.

But, first, let me take a moment to say thank you to everyone who reads CCN. I launched this site several years ago with no following. A little over two years ago I quit my job to run the site full time. This has been one of my most rewarding jobs, and it is thanks to you, the readers.

Every time I hear a thank you or a story about how we helped someone save money, it makes my day. So, thank you for your support, and I promise I will do my best to give you the best cord cutting site I can possibly offer.

So here is what we are doing to make Cord Cutters News even better!

Better Hosting

In August we moved to a new content delivery system that so far seems to be a huge improvement over the older system. With our growth at this rate we will likely be moving again soon.

New Writers

In July we brought in a new guest writer, Jess Barnes. She is a gifted writer who is herself a cord cutter long before she started guest posting for Cord Cutters News. August was her first full month of weekly posts and she has been doing a great job with her in-depth reviews of different streaming services.

Now we are on the hunt to hire experienced writers to join our team as Cord Cutters News continues to grow. Our goal is to bring in talented writers who already have a history of reporting on the industry.

New YouTube Series

If you have been following us on YouTube, you may have noticed more videos every week. We plan to continue to push for better quality videos to help more people learn about cord cutting on YouTube. If you are not yet a subscriber to our YouTube channel, please consider doing so.

Final Notes

These changes are not everything we are working on, but rather just some of the plans we have that I am willing to make public at this time. We have many plans in the works to make CCN the best cord cutting site.

Now these changes do represent a major financial investment into CCN. New servers, paying new writers, and travel to conventions and more to meet with the companies behind cord cutting cost money. So if you visit the site, please consider white listing us if you use an ad blocker.

Also, consider donating $1 a month through our Patreon to help keep the site going strong. That amount may not seem like a lot, but it really adds up.

Once again thank you for your support of CCN. Never could I have dreamed that this site would become so big.

Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more news, tips, and reviews.
