Growing Pains Antenna TV

Antenna TV is Adding 9 New Shows

Antenna TV is an over-the-air TV network that airs classic TV from the 1950s through the 1990s including shows such as “Family Ties,” “The Jeffersons,” and “All in the Family.” It currently covers about 88% of US households with 132 stations according to Antenna TV.

Now Antenna TV has announced today that they will be adding nine classic TV series including Alice, Soap, and Welcome Back, Kotter to its lineup. Antenna TV also adding Benson, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Head of the Class and Murphy Brown also will air on Antenna TV later this year.

“In the six years since Antenna TV has launched there has been a tremendous response from viewers enjoying the network’s classic programming and from stations seeing an increase in revenue,” said Sean Compton, Tribune Broadcasting’s president of strategic programming and acquisitions. “This latest round of programming acquisitions will further broaden Antenna TV’s viewership, and we are looking forward to continued momentum for the network.”

This is great news. These nets (like Antenna, Laff, Cozi, etc) seem just to be scattershot with the shows they provide. I usually record Emergency! (childhood favorite) and Rockford Files (too mature for me at the time of broadcast, but love the show as an adult).
Having said that – Benson, Growing Pains, Alice and Silver Spoons are all shows I loved growing up, and would love to watch again. Looks like my OTA DVR (Tablo) is going to be getting a workout later this year.

You have great taste! Emergency! and The Rockford Files are two of my all-time favorite shows. I watched every available episode of both shows when they were on Netflix. When they left Netflix I bought the complete series of Emergency! on DVD and the complete series of The Rockford Files on blu-ray. I’m currently in season 1 of both series and working my way all the way through again.

I am too cheap to buy the shows on DVD. 🙂 I did watch Emergency! a bunch while it was on Netflix. What I also need to start recording, also on COZI, is Adam 12!
But a lot of these soon-to-be added shows I am really looking forward to. Especially Benson and Alice!

You’re like me! – I grew up watching TV from the 70’s as a Kid

19.6 in Austin, TX. Is Alice leaving LOGO? I have also caught Silver Spoons on something. Is Welcome Back Kotter leaving METV?

    • Respected Citizen

Silver Spoons is also on Logo. Series normally rerun on cable and OTA channels (All in the Family is on AntennaTV and TV Land). They even run on different cable channels (and less frequently, different OTAs) in different time windows (Married with Children is on Logo and TBS).

Kotter left MeTV earlier this year.

The commercials on LOGO make it persona non grata at our house.

I only count 8, what is the ninth one?

      The Hogan Family

These shows aren’t interesting to our family. DH is enjoying the Star Trek shows on Heroes and Icons, while I picked up all the Sharpe series on dvd. If Highlander the series were on again, I’d be interested.

Heroes and Icons isn’t available OTA here in Atlanta (smaller towns north of here, like Athens and Gainesville, yes.. but in town.. no). A friend of mine has H&I (on Comcast) and was singing the praises of being able to watch one of her childhood faves lately – Hunter (one of mine, too). I would pay a small fee for H&I for sure!

Drop a letter in the mail to your local stations requesting it, or post a comment on their Facebook pages. Can’t hurt to ask.

Hunter complete series on ebay $149.99 versus Amazon $199.99.
        : ) ….. and no commercials.
