Cheerful couple cuddling and sitting on the couch watching tv at home in the living roomYou may have heard that streaming was just something millennials do; however, we have a study from Barclays that says streaming is growing fastest with Americans over age 50.

In their report they say the following:

“Because of the relative ease of access, those who watch the most TV, adults 50+, are now also the fastest growing demographic in terms of online video consumption,” wrote Venkateshwar. “This demographic accounts for a third of the total population but half of all TV viewing. This could result in bigger shifts in consumption patterns in the coming quarters.”

“This factor, combined with growth in OTT platforms, connected TVs and deeper penetration of user interfaces agnostic to online and offline content is resulting in time spent watching OTT content starting to rival TV viewership,” wrote Venkateshwar. “Live streaming video is also becoming mainstream (36% have live streamed) and it is an option for the most popular TV programs (NFL, presidential debates, etc).”

Maybe this is no surprise to you but streaming is a lot easier than it used to be. Now it seems like everyone is enjoying all the savings and the huge catalog of content that is available online. Add in the fact that everyone wants access to more content and it is easy to see why streaming is growing with all markets.

So next time you see someone who says they are too old to be a cord cutter make sure to show them this report. The truth is you are never too old to be a cord cutter.
