Cheerful couple cuddling and sitting on the couch watching tv at home in the living roomCord cutting is growing quickly, and it is hard to keep track of everything happening. The following is a quick roundup of five big cord cutting stories I am watching.

#1 New Android TV Player from Google

Leaks and an event at Google’s I/O event point to a major update to Android TV coming in 2017. This could come as soon as June.

#2 New Apple TV

It has been reported by several news groups that Apple will be releasing a 4K Apple TV late this year. Apple TV is currently the only major streaming player that does not offer a 4K option, but that soon will be fixed.

According to reports, the new Apple TV player will be released in late 2017.

#3 New Fire TV Box

The Fire TV box is now almost 2 years old, and Amazon seems to like to refresh its players every 2 years. According to multiple sources, a new 4K HDR Fire TV box will be released at some point in 2017.

#4 Hulu Offline Viewing

Back in January the CEO of Hulu announced that it is working on offline viewing. According to the reports, you will be able to download shows and movies on your Hulu app to watch offline.

Recently Netflix added offline viewing, something Amazon has had for some time.

#5 DIRECTV NOW DVR/Roku

Back at launch DIRECTV NOW announced that it is working on a DVR. It has been hinted at several times that the DVR will launch in 2017. We are also expecting a new DIRECTV NOW app on Roku any day now.

Bonus Story

I am also keeping a close eye on live TV streaming efforts from Comcast, Verizon, and Centurylink. They are all working on something that should come out this summer or fall.

There you have it. Five major cord cutting stories I am keeping an eye on and so should you.
